LIAISON INTERPRETING
Liaison interpreting, bilateral interpreting or escort interpreting tends to be bidirectional, in my case from English into Spanish and vice versa.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIAISON INTERPRETING
➤ This mode of interpreting is also known as bilateral or escort interpreting.
➤ It is ideal for trade fairs, factory visits and business negotiations, in which the clients need an interpreter to accompany them and to orally translate everything the client (and others in the vicinity) says from and into English (English <> Spanish).
➤ The most common mode of interpreting is consecutive; however, interpreters tend not to take notes since the speakers' interventions are shorter (less than five minutes) and the interpretation is bidirectional.
➤ As interpreters and speakers share the same space, no technical equipment is needed.
➤ In this type of interpreting it is even more important to transmit elements of non-verbal communication, such as body language, gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc.
